Series: Street Life: Bath

The nearest city to me is Bath and it’s practically perfect for Street Photography. Perfect because what we’re interested in as Street Photographers is people. We want to capture their gestures, expressions, those little nuances that go towards making up the human condition. In Bath we have a large indigenous population coupled with a huge influx of tourists. They flock to see the narrow cobbled streets which are home to; the Abbey, Roman Baths, Royal Crescent, all of which are encapsulated in Georgian splendour. Being a tourist destination helps with Street Photography, we need lots of people and it’s an endless flow, a sea of people who for the most part are carrying cameras…easy to blend in. If possible there might be time to consider composition, light and shadow, who knows even some Layers…let’s lower those expectations just a touch, because we know with Street Photography that’s a big ask. Making sense of the chaos on the street is tough, essentially I just shoot what I see.

As usual, this project is a work in progress. The photos I have selected will change with others from my archive or new images until I’ve achieved a display that I’m happy with: For that read never, because I’m never satisfied! If you scroll to the bottom of this page you’ll find a YouTube slideshow with these images and many more.
